fence

Did you know that the high fences along Douglasdale Boulevard SE are owned by the home owner’s and not by the community?  As I drive along the boulevard I can’t help but notice how ugly these fences look. Some fences have been repaired, most have not.  Some have been painted, most have not.  Calgary City bylaw does not help, as the fence has to be falling down before the City gets involved.  So what can we do to make our community look better?

I recently repaired and painted my 160 foot fence adjacent to my property.  It was a big job with lots of labour and a few bucks for lumber and paint.   If you own your fence along the boulevard or walk way between houses consider repairs and/or replacement. This includes replacing leaning or broken posts, the trellis, and painting the fence using Sharks Skin 72403, 056B0748/056 “Douglasdale Grey” paint.  The paint is available at Cloverdale Paint on Midpark Way SE, or at Riverbend Hardware 330-8338 18 St. SE in Riverbend. Why not help your neighbour repair his fence if he is unable to do it alone?  Let’s take pride in our community!  “Douglasdale Grey” is the original paint colour chosen by our Community Association years ago.

I believe the current condition of these fences reduces the property value of our community.  We want to live in a good community with low crime rates and not in a slum.  Unfortunately the Maintenance Association cannot paint or repair these fences as they are on private property and belong to the resident.

Let’s take pride in our community and do our part to be responsible home owners.  If you have any ideas on how to address this problem, please direct them to our Community Association, info@dqca.ca
