The DouglasQuarry Community Association (“DQCA”) is a non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers.

1. Grant Application/Fundraising – Finance Committee Member

Frequency: year round

Time commitment: 2-4 hours/month

Description:

The DQCA has a mandate to actively supplement the yearly operating budget with grant funding and sponsorship opportunities. This position works with the Finance committee

  • Reports to the Finance Committee on any grant application opportunities or updates on current grant application status
  • Prepares and submits grant application requests and becomes familiar with grant application processes and submission requirements.
  • Responsible for maintaining a log or file on all available municipal, provincial or private grant opportunities
  • Assists with identify and contacting potential sponsorship candidates
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining relationship with key sponsors and government organizations.
  • Assists in planning and organizing regular scheduled casino events held approximately every 18-24 months.

 


2. Casino Volunteers

Frequency: once every 18-24 months

Time commitment:  1 shift of 8-10 hours

Description:

Volunteers are required once every 18 months the Federation of Calgary Communities receives a license to host a Casino. It takes 40 volunteers to fill the positions for a two-day casino.

Shift Options are generally one of the following options: Day Shift from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm and the Night Shift from 6:00 pm to 3:00 am.

3. DouglasGlen Maintenance Association – Volunteers

Frequency: year round or as needed

Time commitment: 2-4 hours/month

We are looking for volunteers to work with the Douglasglen Maintenance Association Committee in various roles. The committee is responsible for ensuring that the enhanced maintenance program administered by the DQCA board is properly managed. Committee members help set work priorities, liaison with contracted landscaping firm and the City of Calgary.  During the spring summer and fall the committee; ensures that contracted work is being done as specified, ensures that payment for services are handled in a timely fashion, manage any special projects or upgrades that are scheduled to be completed during the year.  We will also require volunteers to go door to door in DouglasGlen gather signatures in support of potential snow removal throughout the community.

4. Social Media Engagement – Membership, Communication & Technology Committee member

Frequency: year round

Time commitment: 2-4 hours/month

The DQCA use a variety of methods to communicate with our community members. An important aspect of this communication is through the use of Social Media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Description:

This volunteer role will work with the membership and communication Committee and work on the following tasks:

  • monitor the association’s social media accounts
  • create content on a regular basis that deals with community events, important issues, and general topics that may be of interest to our community members.
  • provide appropriate responses and information to external posts.
  • Work with committee members to develop a comprehensive social media strategy.

5. Community Planning/Civic Affairs – Committee Member

Frequency: year round

Time commitment: 3-5 hours/month

Description:

  • Reports to the Civic Affairs Committee on any planning or development activities involving and/or having some impact on the Community
  • Monitors and researches any city studies and/or development plans in progress for Board discussion and input
  • Prepares and submits responses to the city of Calgary for any development permit requests, or changes to City Parks Regulations and Community Bylaws
  • Attend and gather information at public consultation forums, meetings with the City of Calgary, City Planners, Transportation Project Office, Developers or any government official office

6. Event Committee Volunteers (June – September & December)

Frequency:  Twice per year Sept and December

Time commitment: 1-2 hours/month and 4- 6 hours during the event

BBQ and Family Run : Volunteers required in the planning and coordination of annual September event. Possible duties include preparing pathways for run and walk, marshalling the run and walk, selling memberships, supervising at play apparatus (bouncy castles), helping with set up prior to event and clean up after the event. General duties throughout the year to help plan and ensure event success.

Family Skate:  Volunteers required to assist with the planning and coordination of annual December event held at the Douglasdale Estates rink. The event takes place during the week between Christmas and New Year’s.
